Within the prestigious LARAC research laboratory, pioneering projects have been developed that have marked the history of international chemistry and revolutionized the plastics industry, opening up new perspectives in materials engineering.
The foundations for the first UNI methods were laid in our lab and world-renowned scientists— among them, Nobel Laureate Giulio Natta have worked here.
Instruments and Equipment
GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY–MASS SPECTROMETRY (SHIMADZU GC-MS QP2020NX)
This technique enables the characterization of key ingredients in complex matrices, both in solid form — through a dedicated pyrolysis system in an inert atmosphere — and in liquid samples, via direct injection using a dedicated autosampler.
DIFFERENTIAL SCANNING CALORIMETRY (METTLER DSC-3)
An instrument dedicated to determining resin reactivity. Through specific chemical-kinetics calculations, it estimates the reaction behavior and reaction rate over a wide temperature range.
INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY WITH MICROSCOPY (THERMO FT-IR NICOLET iN10–iZ10)
This technique enables the effective characterization of the chemical nature of an unknown compound providing essential information about the chemical bonds present.
The integration with a microscope also makes it possible to perform surface scans on various materials to detect the presence of any inclusions.
CHNS ELEMENTAL ANALYZER (THERMO FLASH-2000)
This instrument allows the determination of the percentage content of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and sulfur in unknown samples.
LASER PARTICLE SIZE ANALYSIS (MALVERN MASTERSIZER 3000+ Pro)
The particle-size distribution of powder systems, within a range from 0.1 to 2500 microns, is determined with high precision.
TENSILE TESTING MACHINE (INSTRON 34TM-10)
Used to determine various parameters related to the mechanical strength of specimens prepared with resin–filler mixtures, in order to evaluate their mechanical properties.
LAB SPRAY DRYER (BUCHI S-300)
This laboratory spray dryer enables the drying of water-based resins to obtain resin powders for subsequent evaluations.
